First though I want to give you a quick overview of the AK47 weed plant. They are incredibly easy to grow, in fact it’s one of the easiest strains of marijuana to grow because it is a solid plant and very mould / disease resistant.

Because of this it is a really popular choice of marijuana to grow. For me it is my favourite strain (with the exception of Jack Herer – but Jack Herer doesn’t produce much in terms of quantity) because of it really does grow like weed and it produces very strong weed. The aroma of the smoke and smell is super strong.

It’s a perfect strain for indoor growers too, because AK47 plants are low in height, have a short flowering period and produce generous yields in only 53-63 days. The AK47 strain has won a total of 8 prizes in cannabis competitions around the world. It’s a sativa dominant plant but produces thick Indica like buds and it’s probably the perfect mix of indica / sativa and it is interesting to note that AK47 did win second prize for the Best Indica in the 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup and in 1999 AK47 got second prize for the Best Sativa in the Cannabis Cup.

Automatic AK47 cannabis seeds by Lowryder Seeds

It seems almost impossible to get any Auto AK47 Seeds nowdays. The unique strain of cannabis has been around for quite some years but it appears to have been discontinued by its breeder Lowryder Seeds (aka the Joint Doctor and Lowlife seeds).

I have never been much of a fan myself of autoflowering cannabis because I don’t really like the fact that it has Cannabis Ruderalis in it. As you probably already know there are three types of cannabis plants (Ruderalis, Indica and Sativa). I will do a different post sometime in the fututre about the specific differences between the them.

What is Autoflowering Cannabis?

For those of you who don’t know, only 100% true autoflowering cannabis is Ruderalis. Autoflowering cannabis simply refers to the fact that the Cannabis Ruderalis plant does NOT require a change in light to make it change from vegetive growth stage to flowering growth stage.

For example, if you grow any non-autoflowing marijuana indoors you will start your weed plants under 18 hours of light and 6 hours off per day. Then after say, 2.5 months of vegetive growth you would switch your lights to 12 hours on and 12 hours off. The reduction from 18 hours of light to just 12 triggers the Indica and Sativa Cannabis strains to enter the flowering phase.

Autoflowering cannabis does not need a change in the hours of light they receive for them to flower, you can just leave your lights on at 18 hours per day from the start of your grow until harvest time.

The only true autoflowering cannabis is Ruderalis. At one time I was considering getting some autoflowering cannabis seeds from lowryder seeds but I have since decided not to. The reason is simple… why would I want to grow cannabis seeds that have sub-par genetics. After all, Ruderalis has a THC level which has a THC level so low its not worth wasting your time growing it.

All breeds of autoflowering cannabis seeds are a crossbreed between an Ruderalis cannabis plant and either an Indica or Sativa cannabis plant. The strain I was looking at getting was the Auto AK47 seeds from the Joint Doctor, simpley because of my good experience with the AK47 cannabis strain but also the Joint Doctor is the original breeder of the autoflowering cannabis strains.

I thought about it for a while and it really didn’t take me long to realise that autoflowering cannabis is a waste of time. I want my AK47 seeds to be 100% pure AK47, you know hard core THC heavy AK47, not something thats been crossbreed with another type of cannabis that has not even enough THC to get an ant high.

And, really, what’s so hard about changing your light cycle from 18/6 hours to 12/12 hours? Nothing.

I just don’t see the point in growing autoflowering cannabis and getting average weed.

Auto AK47 seeds and strain info from Lowryder Seeds

This was our first foray into the auto-flowering world and still our favourite. Crossing the very best AK47 we could find with the auto-flowering genes of Lowryder, we have produced a strain that is the perfect blend of the two. Everything that we loved about the AK47 has been left intact from its beautiful aroma and resin encrusted buds through to its unique bud structure and astonishing potency.

Automatic AK47 will grow vegetatively for approximately 14 days then enter into a rapid, almost violent flowering period. For the next 56 days they will branch out profusely, throw out pistils in their thousands, calyxes will swell and a coating of resin glands will make the mature plant glisten as if dusted with fine diamonds.

Odour levels are quite high and a large quantity of flowering females can certainly produce quite an aroma. There are 2 distinct variations in aroma, one is somewhat spicy and the other is sweet but both types produce the same effect.

With a lifespan of a mere 70 days from seed to harvest it is not only possible to get an early harvest of high quality marijuana but multiple harvests per season. Indoors, a perpetual harvest is easy to maintain. The increased height compared to earlier auto-flowering strains brings with it increased yield.

Indoors under lights is the optimum growing environment for Automatic AK74, coupled with a light regime of 20/4 and adequate root space, yield can easily surpass 40g per plant but even outdoors with no supplemental lighting during summer, 30g per plant is very common.

Serious Seeds AK47 – Super Cannabis

Serious Seeds gave the name AK47 to this strain not out of any idea of violence, but rather the one hit wonder that it is, not surprising really given that it has a THC content of 20%.

These medium-sized plants often have indica dominant characteristics showing more of the indica genetic traits. She produces a fantastic number of side branches and her leaves are dark green.

Although every AK47 plant will be slightly different in aroma and appearance, they will all be equal when it comes to smoke them, 2 tokes you will be happy as Larry!

Without exception AK47 develops a large fat main cola along with plenty of superb secondary tops. The size of the single AK47 calyx is uncommonly big, but most impressively is that all colas result in compact, not too leafy buds that gleam with a coat of resin crystals.

AK47 has a high calyx-to-leaf ratio which means that you get not so many leaves but plenty of flowers with fat chunky nuggets with huge reds hairs that are packed full of glistening resinous trichome crystals.

The short flowering period means that flowering of these cannabis seeds usually takes around 9 weeks.

If taken care of properly the yield is way above average, Serious Seeds mention that 350-500g per m2 can be expected under good indoor growing conditions, which is awesome for just 53-63 days of flowering time. Outdoors, half a pound plus per plant is common.

Serious Seeds AK47 will grow well both indoors and outdoors, and thrives outdoors and in hydroponics situations as many growers around the globe have reported.

The buds break up nicely, unleashing a strong, sweet and fruity aroma. Your fingers will stick together when you break it up because of the thick coating of resin that glistens over every bud.

The high is a nice mix between the common sativa and indica traits. Because AK47 is slightly more indica dominant you will feel a heavy narcotic “couchlock” indica stoned but the team at Serious Seeds have successfully managed to blend in nicely the sativa cerebral up-high, and if harvested slightly early you can capatilize on its great cerebral effect. All in all, it is very much though a one hit, and very powerful uplifting high. Be careful how much you have because getting greedy will likely result in over munching and hours of sleeping.

As with other strains of cannabis, many people have repeatedly said that it makes them horny and have fits of laughter.

For me the great thing about Serious Seeds AK47 is that the effects lasted for 7 hours! Which is the longest time that I have been high off three small puffs.

The taste is both sweet and spicy, somewhat a light lemony flavor with a hint of sandalwood, satisfying even the pickiest of connoisseur. The smell is off the hook, incredibly fruity. The smoke is thick but not harsh, and incredibly easy on the lungs.

Should I Buy Original AK47 From Serious Seeds or Can I Get The Same Seeds Cheaper Elsewhere?

Many other cannabis seedbanks and breeders have used the original Serious Seeds AK47 to produce their own marijuana seeds, in other words, they have simply copied Serious Seeds AK47 to create their own seeds. Some growers will say that the Serious Seeds version is better, but I’ve ordered from Serious Seeds and other seedbanks and the plants were just the same.

From my personal experience I can say the copied versions and variations of AK47 that exist are the same quality as the original by Serious Seeds. One example is Nirvana Seeds AK48, I purchased ak48 seeds through Nirvana (and many other fine cannabis seeds) and their AK48 produces really nice plants, the ones that I grew were equivalent to Serious Seeds AK47.

A major issue with ordering the AK47 seeds from Serious Seeds is that the do not ship to the USA, so I’ve always ordered my seeds from Nirvana and been happy everytime.
